Description

In this interactive workshop participants will do a lot of things about contributing to CUPS and OpenPrinting, so that they can join us and make contributions.

You will:
- download CUPS from GitHub, build and test it
- do modifications on the source code
- clone the GitHub repository of CUPS, push your modifications and have the CI tests running
- prepare a Pull Request (PR)
- troubleshoot using CUPS' log files
- emulate an IPP printer, by the simple command line utility ippeveprinter but also by go-mfp, a comprehensive simulator of an IPP multi-function printer

All the exercises you will do on your own laptop and we answer your questions and guide you through the steps.

Till is lead of OpenPrinting since it was founded in 2001, introduced the CUPS printing system in Mandrake Linux in 2000 working at MandrakeSoft and with this and a lot of evangelism (booths, talks, workshops) made the other distros also switch to CUPS, since 2006 printing maintainer at Canonical, co-organizing annual meetings with the Printer Working Group (PWG), since 2008 every year mentoring in Google Summer of Code, doing everything to make printing on Linux and alike operating systems "just work". With his OpenPrinting work Till has many years of experience with presenting on conferences and participating in their organization. Till is also fellow of the Linux Foundation.
