Speaker
Description
On paper, conference streaming is easy: put some video into a browser and send it to YouTube. That version worked perfectly, right up until we added three rooms, remote speakers, screen sharing, twelve stream keys, and people waiting for the event to start.
This talk is about the system we built around VDO.Ninja to handle the resulting mess. One server runs three independent room pipelines, mixes speakers and slides, and routes each room to the right YouTube event. More importantly, it tries very hard to stop an operator from streaming Room 2 into Room 1’s keynote.
We will look at the decisions that mattered once the prototype met production: isolating rooms, keeping secrets out of logs, preventing conflicting services, restarting failed components, and checking the entire pipeline before somebody says, “We are live.” or "Why is it not streaming?"
There is some FFmpeg, some systemd, and a healthy amount of defensive Bash. The video encoding was the easy part. Making the setup boring enough to operate during a real conference was the actual job.
