Monitoring has evolved from basic host checks to full-stack observability across on-premises, cloud, containers, and networks. Zabbix is a mature, enterprise-grade, fully open-source monitoring platform that enables organisations to achieve deep visibility without vendor lock-in.
This talk introduces Zabbix from a Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) perspective, covering its architecture, scalability model, data collection methods, and real-world operational use cases. Attendees will gain clarity on when and why Zabbix fits, how it compares with other monitoring stacks, and how the community drives its evolution.

I am a Linux Architect with hands-on experience building, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise Linux platforms. My work spans high-availability clustering (Pacemaker, Veritas, HPE Serviceguard), centralised identity management (FreeIPA, LDAP, 389DS), and scalable monitoring with Zabbix, including service-aware and log-based monitoring in clustered setups. I specialise in deep Linux troubleshooting and root cause analysis, covering kernel, networking, SELinux, and performance issues across RHEL, SLES, and Oracle Linux. My background also includes virtualisation and cloud infrastructure (VMware, oVirt/RHEV, OpenStack), Docker-based workloads, and automation using Bash and Ansible to deliver reliable, repeatable systems at scale, while actively contributing to and engaging with the open-source and internet operations community.
